Dwie Podróże / Two Journeys

Polish

(Pawłowi Huelle)

Jedziemy na południe
Przez tylne drzwi ostatniego wagonu
Klin perspektywy wbija się w wąwóz
Przejechaliśmy nad ukrytą pod nasypem Strzyżą
Mijamy mężczyznę z dziewczyną i czarnym psem
Piknik w mroźny, zimowy dzień
Termos z gorącą kawą, kanapki
Za chwilę ruszą w przeciwną stronę
Pociąg przeskakuje kolejny zwalony most
Pablo kagańcem uderza w szybę
Córka uspokaja go łagodnym głosem
Niewidomy konduktor zapowiada następną stację

English Translation

(for Pawel Huelle)

We are traveling to the south
Through the back doors of the last train car
The land wedges into a ravine
We’ve just passed the culvert over the Strzyza River
We’ve just passed a man and a woman with a black dog
A picnic on a chilly winter day
A thermos with hot coffee and a small group of sandwiches
In a moment they will go off in their own way
While this train keeps going over the next missing bridge
And Pablo my muzzled dog lunges at the plate glass door
My daughter calms him with the softness of her voice
As our blind conductor calls out the next station on the line
