Pinball Hinge

The image splits at the hinge and mirrors:
symmetry is invented.

Because the hinging word:
the rest rests.

Word at the angle of the mouth purrs:
no stoppered throat at the noisy dangle.

First of the face’s many hinges:
tongue makes the smooth wall a swinging door.

Hum made through the backlit crease:
whir heard through a dark bend.

Elbows and fingers beckon in:
heart valve shutters and lets.

The more formal the letter, the fewer the hinges.
Relationship: depend and depending:

Plate and stitch: book and cupboard.
Butterfly: the straight pin.

Hinge where what’s stiff won’t fit:
the giving in.
