Biography

Né en 1947, AUXEMÉRY vit en France, au bord de l’Atlantique. Traducteur de nombreux poètes américains (Charles Reznikoff, Charles Olson, W.C. Williams, H.D., Ezra Pound, Robert Creeley, Nathaniel Tarn, Kenneth Koch, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, Clayton Eshleman…), ses périples à travers le monde — et les lointains méandres de sa bibliothèque — ont nourri une œuvre dont l’essentiel est présenté dans Parafe (1994), Codex (2001) et Les animaux industrieux (2007), au sein de la collection Poésie/Flammarion. Il a aussi publié un récit : Les Actes d’Hélène (2000), chez Ulysse fin de siècle. Sa traduction des Poèmes de Maximus de Charles Olson est parue aux Éditions de la Nerthe (Toulon) en octobre 2009.

Born in 1947, AUXEMÉRY lives by the French Atlantic Ocean. Translator of numerous American poets (Charles Reznikoff, Charles Olson, W.C. Williams, H.D., Ezra Pound, Robert Creeley, Nathaniel Tarn, Kenneth Koch, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, Clayton Eshleman…), his travels across the world — and the distant meanderings in his library — have nourished a work whose essential writings are presented in several books such as Parafe (1994), Codex (2001) and Les animaux industrieux (2007), all published by Flammarion. He has also published a work of prose, Les Actes d’Hélène (Ulysse fin de siècle, 2000). His translation of The Maximus Poems by Charles Olson (Éditions de la Nerthe, Toulon) appeared in October 2009. Auxeméry is a contributing editor of Cerise Press.

NATHANIEL TARN was born in Paris in 1928. His poetry was praised by Octavio Paz for its “rich temperament, a remarkable, linguistic inventiveness, and a vision both original and universal.” Tarn was a leading anthropologist for many years, and a pioneering translator of Pablo Neruda and Victor Segalen. He has published more than twenty books of poetry, essays, and translations — most recently The Embattled Lyric: Essays & Conversations in Poetics & Anthropology (Stanford University Press, 2007), Avia (Shearsman Books, 2008) and Ins and Outs of the Forest Rivers (New Directions, 2008).
