(Anniversaire d’Hiroshima)
Ceux qui croient en l’immortalité
et celui qui n’y croit plus.
Il a vu
contre les marches
de la chambre de commerce d’une ville
irradiée par les six rayons d’un fleuve
le négatif d’un homme
réduit à son ombre,
confondu avec son ombre,
jusqu’à l’effondrement du support de son ombre.
Je continue à écrire,
pour un théâtre de papier.

and he who no longer believes—
He saw,
against the steps
of the chamber of commerce, in a city
irradiated along the six rays of a river,
the negative of a man
reduced to his shadow,
confused with his shadow,
till nothing remained to support his shadow.
